Later, on 1 December 2010, Johnson scored the third and final target for Manchester City in a UEFA Europa suit against Red Bull Salzburg. Johnson's following target came ten days subsequent, scoring the 3rd target in a 3-1 win away at West Ham.

International career

A prior under-19 global, Johnson was called-up for the under-21 team at the 2009 UEFA U21 Championships in Sweden. He scored once in qualification and again in the first leg of the qualification play-offs against Wales U21s as the Young Lions narrowly won 5–4 on compound to qualify for the tournament. During the tournament he began in pair of the three team degree matches. He won the man-of-the-match award in the final team degree suit against Germany that ended in a 1–1 draw and translated his punishment in the semi-final shoot-out win against Sweden.

In late February 2010, Johnson was dubbed in the senior squad for the first time in Fabio Capello's 30-man shortlist for the upcoming March friendly against Egypt in May but did not produce the final 23.
In May, Capello dubbed Johnson in his draft 30-man World Cup squad. Johnson prepared his full England debut on 24 May in a 3–1 friendly victory against Mexico at Wembley Stadium, emanating on as a late substitute for James Milner. On 1 June 2010, Capello broadcast his final 23-man team and Johnson malfunctioned to produce the cut.

On 11 August 2010, Johnson began his first game for England against Hungary at Wembley Stadium and played the complete game.
He scored his first global target on three September 2010 against Bulgaria in a Euro 2012 qualifier, which England won via 4–0. He scored his second global target against Switzerland in a 3–1 win afterwards emanating on as an early substitute for the injured Theo Walcott
