France and Fiji will meet for the first time since the 2003 Rugby World Cup on Saturday with the home side bidding to maintain their unbeaten record against the Polynesians.

The two sides have gone head to head seven times in total with four of those clashes coming in the World Cup. Les Bleus defeated the Fijians 31-16 in the quarter-finals in Auckland in 1987. They met again four years later, with France having a far easier time of it thanks to a Jean-Baptiste Lafond a hat-trick that inspired a 33-9 success in Grenoble.

They were drawn together in the same pool again in 1999 when France prevailed once more - but they were made to work hard for their 28-19 victory.

It was all too easy for the French, though, in 2003, with Frederic Michalak kicking 18 points and Yannick Jauzion emulating Lafond in scoring a hat-trick as the Europeans coasted to a 61-18 victory. Fiji will be intent on avoiding a similar mauling in Nantes on Sunday.
